Solemn Birthdays

This was a great weekend for the most part.

Friday was spent at the kids school quite a bit. Roo had his kindergarten "tea"/orientation. He did quite fine. It also helped that he had been with me with Lyd last year when she had the same teacher. So, it was almost like "old hat" to us, which was nice. I felt like an old pro, and actually found it all a little boring overall. It was good too though since he was able to see which seat was his and where all his stuff went in the class. He kept telling me all weekend, "I will start kindergarten the day after your birthday mom!" For whatever reason, he was very excited about that.

Saturday hubby worked and we had a BBQ/carshow benefit for the special olypics to go to. My brother Steve's company does the BBQ portion each year and we always purchase tickets. The car show was really nice and they had a lot of kids activities there also. There were car races, bounce house, Home Depot kits where the kids could build bird houses and other stuff. It was actually quite enjoyable. Sunday was laid back. Hubby helped someone else with their car. I didn't have a problem for it. The kids and I went and did some shopping for upcoming beginning of school on Tuesday. By the end of the day though, I was pretty tired and not feeling quite up to snuff. I went to bed early on Sunday night.

Monday came around and the kids came bouncing into the room to wish their mom happy birthday! I officially turned 41. My brother Jeff the called me to wish me happy birthday, this was his song, to the tune of Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
You are going to be blue
when I tell you
Steve Irwin is through

Yep, that's my brother Jeff. He can be a bit crass. He knew I was a huge Steve Irwin fan. From his very early days on the television I was a major fan. I actually even have an autographed pic of the man and his wife Terri. Not that I ever met them, but on a whim I wrote to them at the zoo. I have no idea where the picture is now though. It filed away somewhere, I am sure. So, my birthday was still good though a bit over shadowed with Irwin's death. I wasn't a nut case or anything, nor did I cry..but I couldn't stop thinking about his wife and two little kids who will be without their Dad now. I can't imagine having to tell my kids that their dad was killed. And with their boy who is only two, he won't even understand at all...He will just be crying because he wants to see his dad and won't have any clue as to why he won't be coming back home ever again. My heart just hurts at the thought.

Other than that, I was spoiled on my birthday. I was taken out to a nice dinner, spent a great time with my family, and my brother Jeff threw a BBQ for me. We got home about 7:00 and got the kids all settled in for the start of school today.

The kids did great today with school. Roo was a real trooper and is in the front row. He seemed to like it there. We shall see if he is able to keep that spot. He is actually very good at school and has never had a timeout or anything along thouse lines, and he is very proud of that fact. He promptly told me today that several kids had time outs but he didn't . Lyd did equally well. I asked her how her day went and she delineated everything from start to finish which was quite a change from last year. Last year I would ask and I could hardly get a word about how the day went. She just wasn't that interested in telling me how it went. It was over and all that mattered for her was what lay ahead. She is so much like her father in that respect.

Work is nutty as every. We have everything packed up and I am currently in limbo between buildings. I had no home, but nursing was nice enough to let me have a temp office in their building. So, now I can at least do some computer work at school and whatnot. I still don't have my regular phone so my cell phone has now been my main form of communicae. Kind of wierd, but nice. We should be able to start moving stuff in to the portable labs tomorrow which is good. It will still be nutty for a while but the dust is slowly beginning to settle.

Hopefully if I can manage to get my act together, I will get some pictures up soon!
